Reflection: Complex Tasks Because of Winn-Dixie Literacy Centers - Section 6: Closure


I found that my knowledge of my students complemented the design and dynamic of the literacy centers.  Certain students tended to excel in literacy centers which worked well with their learning style.  My modeling what I expected of my students and walking around to monitor to ensure that students stayed on task was a key scaffolding strategy.  Because I understand which of my students are visual learners, which are kinesthetic learners, which are linguistic learners, etc., I was able to help boost their success through my purposeful selection of these particular literacy centers.

Objective: SWBAT engage in cross-curricular literacy centers (storytelling, vocabulary, drama) to orally tell a story, determine the meaning of words, and role play their favorite scene from "Because of Winn-Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo.

Big Idea: Students will develop oral storytelling skills, build vocabulary, and show artistic expression through engaging in cross-curricular literacy centers for the story "Because of Winn-Dixie."
