Reflection: Writing Across the Disciplines Who Is Cesar Chavez? - Section 5: Cesar Chavez Completed Posters

 

To help put together this poster, we needed a couple of days. The first draft happened after lunch which gave the students a well deserved break. I finished my the revision of the paragraphs during my English Language Development time. It took 40 minutes more. The lesson is very rich with content. For a few students it took longer because this task required much for them, so these students completed their work during their Independent Work Time.

Also, I did have the students present the posters, but, unfortunately, I didn't take pictures or record them. I wish I had, but you can enjoy their work with the video I provided.

I feel this lesson challenged the students. It challenged them to think about what text features they wanted to use and what they wanted to say to them. In order to be able to incorporate their text features, their prior experiences helped much.

I had to encourage them quite a bit with that task and give them much support. They needed support about which text features to include and what to write. Yet, it all came together.
