Reflection: High Quality Task Writing Conferences: Hitchhiker Outlines - Section 3: Writing Conferences

At the end of today, I was tired.  No, I was TIRED.  Teaching writing -- the nitty gritty details of logic and organization -- is really exhausting.

And that's why I think a lot of teachers kind of gloss over it and save themselves some hassle. Because we are human beings, not bottomless fonts of patience who never wonder "How many times can a human being explain that a detail has to be connected to the element that it describes?  Or that a "sentence outline" has to be comprised of SENTENCES?"

When I was in grad school, I always said I wanted to be a writing teacher who taught writing (exclusively) to students of all ages.  Don't get me wrong, it is rewarding and wonderful to help students move forward.  And I enjoy the one-on-one conversations.  But teaching and coaching writers is the hardest thing I do.
