Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Sorting 3D Shapes - Section 3: Independent Practice

In the video of the student explaining his work, he was confused in the use of the term sphere and cylinder.  Sometimes I feel that teaching geometry is like teaching a new language to students. There are so many terms! I try to provide students with continual exposure to the vocabulary and give them the opportunity to talk to their classmates or use the vocabulary as often as possible. I also bring in concrete manipulatives and modeling precise language, myself.

All of this work will eventually pay off and students, in the meantime, get ample opportunity to engage with MP6.
