Reflection: Pacing Poetry: Idiom - Section 2: Term of the Day

 

Just like with similes and metaphors, I would strongly recommend putting a day or so in between this lesson and the one on hyperboles. Both concepts are similar enough that students readily confuse the two especially if they aren’t reviewed or practiced in context. Just one more topic I would love to have more time to teach!

Objective: SWBAT recognize the term of the day in a short poetry passage and practice using it in a writing activity.

Big Idea: After learning the definition of idiom, students practice reading examples in a short poem, and use it in their writing.
