Reflection: Intervention and Extension Addition Story Problems - Section 2: Group Interaction


My students really enjoyed being able to use their classmates names and create their own word problems.  It would be very easy to extend this lesson into a center and provide the same worksheets for students to create more problems.  It provides practice in reading, language, and math.  As they create their own problems you could encourage them to solve each other's problems.

Objective: SWBAT write addition sentences to represent and solve addition number stories.

Big Idea: JOINING=ADDITION! We want our students to practice math vocabulary and identify that joining numbers is the same as addition.
