Reflection: Standardized Tests (PARCC/Smarter Balanced) Cosmically Cool Planet Research! Day Three: Researching with Digital and Print Text - Section 6: Lesson Extras!


I try to incorporate standardized testing practice all throughout the year.  Giving students lots of practice in slow, steady amounts is much better than having all of it right before testing.  Right now, there isn't a lot of materials available to support PARCC-like questions and tasks.  I have found it helpful to create things this year, such as passages and questions by using the Lexile Analyzer to assess the level of my passages, as well at the PARCC Model Content Frameworks as a guide for creating questions and other tasks.

Cosmically Cool Planet Research! Day Three: Researching with Digital and Print Text

Unit 5: Out of this World! Exploring Enriching Literature and Cosmically Cool Informational Text
Lesson 11 of 19

Objective: SWBAT build their knowledge about a planet by reading print and digital sources. SWBAT to answer self-generated research questions about their planet, taking notes.

Big Idea: The students continue reading informational text in digital and print forms about the planet they're researching. They answer questions that they generated and take brief notes on notecards.
