## Reflection: Lesson Planning Ways to Make 3- A Lesson on Decomposing - Section 2: Presentation of Lesson

For this lesson students used counting cubes manipulatives to come up with ways to make three.  I randomly handed out three cubes to each student.  However, I found that students tended to make use the colors of the cubes to guide their thinking on how to group them.  For example, if a student had two yellow cubes and a red cube they repeatedly wanted to show me 2 + 1 and had a difficult time developing other possibilities.  In the future I will stick to one color for each student.
