Reflection: Lesson Planning Folktales: Character's Response to Conflict - Section 2: Setting a Purpose

I chose this text for several reasons, one of which is that it’s fictional elements are easily recognizable. For most of the mini-lessons in this unit, that’s a positive thing. However, sometimes this can backfire a little as students work with partners to locate the elements in their own texts. In the model text, the main character comes right out and announces his plan to solve his problem. In the lesson, I try to explain that not all texts follow this pattern. Depending on how difficult their partner texts are, students may need extra support during partner practice in order to be successful at the next task.
