Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Review: Fractions and Decimals - Section 2: Independent Practice

Knowing place value makes it much easier on students with learning so many concepts.  In the case of fractions and decimals, it is important for the students to know place value.  If they don't know what decimal place the number is in, then it is going to be very difficult to rename the decimal as a fraction.  Practicing with place value charts and money can help with learning decimal place value.  Earlier in the school year, the students used the decimal place value chart and money to learn this skill. In this review lesson, I am checking for understanding by having the students show me what they know by remembering place value.  On our state test, place value charts and money will not be allowed as manipulatives.  I am setting my students up for success by having them apply the skill in the same type of setting as the end of year test.
