Reflection: Performance Tasks Promoting our Messages: Social Commentary Presentations - Section 3: Social Commentary Self-Assessment/Reflection


As I've looked through my students' projects, I have been surprised at the wide variance in regards to quality. I always wonder when this happens where the break down happened. I think a large part of it was timing this time. Any project assigned in the spring time needs a bit of different delivery and support as students are starting to lose their motivation. While I don't know that I can blame all of the randomness to this, but I think it likely played a big part.

I'm bummed, though, because I really felt like this project had the potential to engage the students well. Here's the thing. I think they understand social commentary and how it is used. I even think they had really cool ideas for their own projects. I think there was just a break down in between the conception of their ideas and the outcome of their work. 

I am going to take this all into consideration when planning my final unit (how is that possible?!?) and hopefully, I can figure out a way to bridge their engagement with their motivation and keep them hooked for the last few weeks of school.

Objective: SWBAT present information such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning by sharing the message and product of their final social commentary.

Big Idea: Today students will engage as listeners and presenters as we experience the wide variety of social commentaries created for our class.
