Reflection: Flexibility Creating a Character Day 4 - Section 4: Independent Practice

Depending on how much time you have to commit to independent work and how comfortable students are in the writing process, this lesson may take one or two days. Because we completed a similar writing activity earlier in the year, students were fairly comfortable with the task and needed little redirection. However, if this is the first time students have completed a three paragraph piece from notes, it might be best to focus on completing just paragraph one on the first day and paragraphs two and three the next. Not only will this provide additional time for students to work, but it will also give you additional time after students leave to review their work and ensure that they understand the process before moving on.
