Reflection: Complex Tasks Infer the Characters' Point of View - Section 3: Let's Get Excited!

 

I like this story because it has some GREAT, but difficult, vocabulary, as well as opportunity for inferencing point of view. I believe that vocabulary work is best done in context and there were tons of contextual clues to give the kids ideas about the meaning.  As stunt read and comprehend literature, including stories at the far end of the Grade 2-3 text complexlty band proficiently with scaffolding, it challenges them to look to context for word definition. (RL.2.10) Don't pass out the opportunities to teach more difficult vocabulary. These are real opportunities to 'raise the bar' for the kids and the words will be better remembered learned in context.
