Reflection: Student Ownership Mars One Close Read - Integration of Knowledge and Ideas - Section 3: iPad Exploration

 

There is power in giving the students the freedom of choice. When I assigned the students to read from the Mars one website from the FAQ section, instead of assigning the students to read specific parts of the website, I gave the students the choice to read through them figure out which parts they most wanted to read.  This freedom of choice more fully engage the students in reading. If I were to have assigned the specific parts I wanted them to read, I don't believe that all students would've been fully engaged in reading from the iPads. When we give students choices they take some ownership in their learning and are more motivated to to participate.

Objective: SWBAT integrate information from two texts on the Mars One project in order to speak about the subject knowledgeably.

Big Idea: In this lesson, students will be integrating the knowledge they have gained on the Mars One Project from multiple sources as they participate in meaningful group discussions.
