Lesson: Solving inequalities using multiplication and division
Lesson Objective
Lesson Plan
Do Now: (5 minutes)
1) Solve for x: x/6 = 5
2) Solve and graph for x:
x – 6 > 7
3) -7(4)
Problem Solving: (15 minutes)
Solve for x in the following equation and inequality:
x + 8 = 6 x + 8 < 6
Was there a difference in the steps that were used to solve the equation and inequality? What is different about the solutions?
Have students solve the next inequality and equation on their own after discussing the first two.
Solve for x:
3x = 27 3x>27
Was there a difference in the steps used to solve the inequality and equation? What is different about the two solutions?
Ask students to solve the next inequality on their own, then share their work with a partner.
Ex. x/3 > 5
Ex. m/8 , 3
Ex. 3x + 2x > 45
Guided Practice: (5 minutes)
Solve and graph the following problems on white boards:
42 > 6x
3x<-18
x/18 > 3
x/2<-6
