Lesson Objective

Students will analyze properties of solid geometric figures in order to classify pyramids and prism by their faces, edges, and vertices.

Lesson Plan

Engagement ( Warm- Up) 5 min.:
Display two different shapes: Triangle and Square. Ask the students to describe each figure listin all of its properties.

Allow students to share their answers and demonstrate if possible.

Exploration (Self- Guided) 10 min.: (Notes)
Solid figures have 3 dimensions: length, width, and height.
Face: the flat surface where the edges meet.
Edge: the line segment that connects two faces and two vertices
Vertex: the corner or point where edges meet.

Explanation (Insrtuctional) 15 minutes:
Teacher will display actual three dimensional solids so that students can see how each looks and identify the properties of each.

Cube: 6 Faces/ 12 Edges/ 8 Vertices

Students will create actual three dimensional figures to see what each part of the solid looks like and make a connection to real world items.

Solid Synthesis Activity

Elaboration (Classwork/ Homeowrk) 20 min.:

Homework: Classifying Solids WKST.

Evaluation (Closing) 5 min.:
Exit Ticket 2 min.:
What solids have the same number of faces, edges, and vertices?
