Course: 5th Grade Math Problem Solving

Math Problem Solving is a one-hour math course in which students learn to apply mathematical procedures to solve problems. Students take Math Problem Solving in addition to Math Procedures.

Curriculum

  1. Geometry

     
  2. Number Sense

    This unit teaches basic number concepts such as patterns, place value and comparing numbers. Lessons in this unit are organized by topic and do not represent daily objectives.

     
  3. Percents

    This unit introduces percents. At this point in the curriculum, students have already learned how fractions and decimals represent parts of a whole. This unit focuses on applying percents to solve problems and methods for converting between fractions, decimals, and percents.

     
  4. Whole Number Operations

     
  5. Probability

    This unit introduces basic concepts in probability.

     
  6. Decimals

    This unit provides an introduction to representing parts of a whole using decimals. Students will learn to round decimals and perform the four operations with decimal numbers. The unit includes lessons focused on applying decimal concepts and procedures. There is also an open resposne workshop in this unit.
