Lesson Objective

Review of metric units and conversions for high school chemistry and /or biology.

Lesson Plan

Introduce the "How to Metric" technique.  Do a few problems as whole class guided practice then have students complete the worksheet  10 minutes in class and the remainder as homework (if more time is needed).  The next day review the problems as a whole class and then take the metric quiz.  Give every other student  an alternating version of the quiz.  If a student misses more than 1 point they must retake on their own time until they get either a perfect score or no more than 1 point off.  This ensures that students who need more review gdet it, but does not stall the whole class on old material.

Scientific notation and significant figures are approched using this all or none process.  I do not mark students down for having to retake the quiz (new versions) many times.  Generally it only takes one more try.
