Do Know
Scholars will be given the Do Know at the beginning of the class to complete in 3 minutes.  Scholars will answer the questions on the do know. Scholars will be chosen at random to give the correct answer of each question on the Do know. .

What is the place value of each underlined digit?

Lesson Opening
Once the sharing of answer is completed, the teacher will briefly explain to the scholars that the do know was the first thing the class did to meet their objective, or goal, for the day.The teacher will state the lesson objectives for the class period.

Direct Instruction
The teacher will lead scholars into the directed instruction portion of the lesson. The teacher will model finding the place value using the following guide lines in the class notes.
Class Notes
The value of a digit is the digit multiply by the place of the number. Example the value of the  4 in 3,586.489 is 4 × 0.1 beacase the place value of the 4 is tenth so the value is 0.4 in numerical form or four tenth  in word form.
Guided Practice
Teacher and scholars will find the value of a digit in a number on the white boards using the principles in the class notes. Both teacher and scholars will do several questions until they are comfortable to work on their own.
